Fuel-Protect Keep Clean Solution

John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean solution for diesel fuel systems is specially formulated to improve engine performance conditions identified as injector sticking, engine misfire, rough idling, excess exhaust smoking, power/fueling loss and hard starting conditions in modern high-pressure diesel fuel systems by preventing the formation of deposits that may cause these issues.

John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean solution for diesel injectors is a maintenance additive to be used over the life of the engine. It is recommended for diesel engines in three primary situations:

1.      Diesel engines that have been successfully treated with a diesel injector flush procedure using John Deere Clean-Up 2

2.      New diesel engines beginning with the initial fuel fill to prevent deposits from forming in the injection systems

3.      Diesel engines displaying the symptoms identified as injector sticking, engine misfire, rough idling, excess exhaust smoking, power/fueling loss and hard starting conditions in modern high-pressure diesel fuel systems

This product is intended to be blended with diesel fuel in bulk storage fuel tanks or on-equipment fuel tanks. John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean for diesel fuel system injectors meets the EPA ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) requirements. Read and follow all application instructions and safety information on the product label prior to use.

Treat rate

John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean solution for diesel injectors can be applied in two ways. Select the appropriate treat rate based on current operating condition of the fuel system and customer needs:

The Maintenance Treat Rate is for use in engines with good performance as described above in situations 1 and 2.

The Cleaning Treat Rate is for use in engines with identified issues as described above in situation 3.

The Maintenance treat rate is intended for those engines experiencing good performance and should be viewed as a preventive measure against issues described as injector sticking, engine misfire, rough idling, excess exhaust smoking, power/fueling loss and hard starting conditions that may occur in modern high-pressure and other diesel fuel systems by preventing the formation of deposits that may cause these issues. The Maintenance treat rate schedule can be implemented in new engines, from zero hours, and when at risk based on known contributing conditions or experience. Additional scenarios for which the Maintenance treat rate may be applied are;

·        After injector replacement related to fuel deposits

·        After diesel injector flush tool and John Deere Clean-Up 2 have successfully been applied

·        After successful use of John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean at the Cleaning treat rate (see below)

The Cleaning treat rate is intended for those engines actively experiencing performance symptoms such as injector sticking, engine misfire, rough idling, excess exhaust smoking, power fueling loss, and hard starting conditions in modern high-pressure and other diesel fuel systems attributed to deposits.  This higher concentrate treat rate for cleaning the targeted deposits takes effect over the course of one to two weeks of operation (40 to 80 hours) as the engine returns to normal levels of operation and performance.

John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean is intended to be blended with the diesel fuel in the machine fuel tank or in a bulk fuel storage tank and dispersed with the diesel fuel. In order to ensure optimal mixing, it is recommended that John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean be added to an empty tank. John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean is never intended to be used inside any Injector Flush Tool.

The initial solution for cleaning up affected injector systems is still available and promoted. John Deere Diesel Fuel System Clean-Up 2, along with the John Deere Fuel Injector Flush Tool, is a proven treatment for these fuel related engine performance issues. Each application requires one bottle of John Deere Diesel Fuel System Clean-Up 2 (TY27017) and one new Fuel Injector Flush Tool Filter Element (SW10967P1). These products are intended for use together by the John Deere dealership service department, and this Clean-Up 2 solution is never to be poured into any vehicle fuel tank.

Question and Answers

These are Questions and Answers related to the use of this product and other diesel fuel treatments from John Deere.

The John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean label and product information indicates that there is a Cleaning treat rate. Does this eliminate the need to use the Injector Flush tool and John Deere Clean-Up 2 solution?

The Injector Flush service will continue to be promoted using John Deere Clean-Up 2 solution and Injector Flush tool. The Injector Flush service and John Deere Clean-Up 2 solution will dissolve the deposits, eliminating the symptoms of rough idle, hard starting, exhaust smoke, and weak power, generally after a 1 hour connection to the machine.

John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean can be used at a Cleaning treat rate to dissolve and remove the same deposits; however, it does require use over a period of 40 to 80 hours.

Can the John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean be used at the Cleaning treat rate in place of using the Injector Flush tool with the John Deere Clean-Up 2 solution?

The Injector Flush service will continue to be promoted using John Deere Clean-Up 2 solution and Injector Flush tool. Why are there two treat rates for John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean? What is the difference between Maintenance and Cleaning?

Maintenance Treat Rate will prevent the ongoing formation of deposits

Cleaning Treat Rate will remove existing deposits over a period of 40 to 80 hours.

Can the two products, John Deere Fuel-Protect Conditioner and John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean, be used together?

YES. John Deere Fuel-Protect Conditioner use will manage nuisance issues that occur with variances in fuel quality. John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean should be added to this routine when issues identified as injector sticking, engine misfire, rough idling, excess exhaust smoking, power loss and/or hard starting conditions in modern high-pressure diesel fuel systems occur.

The chemistry of these two John Deere products is not aggressive towards each other, nor does it create a combined aggressive product. Use of these products within the guidelines of recommended use will not cause the user to exceed current emission regulations.

Do I need to use both the John Deere Fuel-Protect Conditioner and the John Deere Fuel-Protect Keep Clean?

John Deere Fuel Conditioner does contain detergents and they are effective in managing routine build-up of deposits and contaminants in legacy machines. John Deere Fuel Conditioner also has properties that control moisture, boost cetane number, and add lubricity. These additional benefits are not provided with Keep Clean as it is designed to address the stubborn deposit formation associated with some ULSD in higher pressure fuel systems.
